Evaluating Nigeria's Community Infant and Young Child Feeding Counselling Package

Community-based infant and young child feeding (C-IYCF) promotion, counseling, and support has been acknowledged as one of the key pillars for improving nutritional status during the critical first 1,000 days. In spite of the global interest in UNICEF's generic C-IYCF Counseling Package, little was known about its impact on IYCF behaviors in the countries where it has been adapted.

SPRING/Nigeria Celebrates Achievements in Close Out Event

In November 2016, representatives from the Government of Nigeria, USAID, international NGOs, and civil society organizations gathered for a final meeting to celebrate the achievements and lessons learned through the SPRING project. Active in Nigeria with PEPFAR funding since June 2012, SPRING/Nigeria operated with the goal of reducing maternal and child undernutrition.

Background

In Uganda, the MOH is piloting a program to promote MNP fortification of complementary foods for infants and children 6-23 months, with an eye toward national expansion. The MOH and partners are positioning MNP as part of an overall strategy to improve the complementary feeding aspect of IYCF messaging and counseling, as well as WASH practices.

Kyrgyz Media Joins SPRING in an Effort to Reduce Malnutrition in the Kyrgyz Republic

Starting on 15 September 2016, SPRING/Kyrgyz Republic hosted a two-day Media and Messenger Training in Bishkek for 32 members of national media in the Kyrgyz Republic. The event focused on malnutrition, which affects women and children throughout the country, and the media’s potential role in improving nutritional outcomes by focusing on special services and practices during the “1,000 days window of opportunity.”
