Improving Nutrition through Community Video in Guinea (French)

In 2016, SPRING introduced the community video approach in Guinea working with our local partner, Winrock International and Digital Green. Through a rapid formative research process, SPRING identified specific nutrition and agriculture practices to improve dietary diversity through community video. SPRING then conducted video production trainings, targeted to local stakeholders, including staff from the agriculture training institution (ISAV).

The video features Mr. Zouberou who finds a group of friends talking about close pregnancies and birth spacing. They teach him about spacing births, and he returns home and suggests his wife go for a consultation at the health hut. After these discussions, the men and women understand the importance of harmonizing the home.

Community Video (Niger): Technique de Potabilisation de L'Eau - Water Purifying Technique

A group of men and women come to a meeting called by the village chief. The chief explains that many people are drinking unsafe water, and that water purification is very important. The chief returns home to find his wife washing water containers and they discuss water purification. He leaves to looks for water, meets Mr. Abdou, and teaches him about the importance of water purification. Mr. Abdou returns home to share the information with his wife.

This video is shot in the village of Mama, Zinder region. Mr. Aminou finds his pregnant wife at home cutting food for cooking and they discuss the consumption of camel meat. After convincing her husband, the couple goes to the health worker. He explains to the couple the usefulness of eating local foods. Mr. Aminou meets with Mr. Moutari, where he finds him letting his child eat eggs. Mr. Moutari explains to his friend that the child benefits from eating eggs, despite the taboo. After these discussions, the women and men learn the benefits of preparing and eating local foods.

The video is shot in the village of Kalgo Tchama, Dogo commune in the Zinder region and features Mr. Damzo's wives. He gives his wife money for food and then goes to fetch firewood. In another family, Moussa is pressuring his wife Sakina to do the housework. Back from the well, a friend of Damzo meets him and makes fun of Damzo for fetching water, which according to him is a woman's job. Then, sensitizer Sakina comes to Rabia. She finds her leaning and discovers that it is because of heavy household tasks she has been doing.
