The “Healthy Nutrition - Healthy Youth” event brought together 102 competitors from the surrounding colleges of Jalal Abad, who participated in a 5 km distance run, rope pulling, and other competitions. In addition to the competitions testing strength and endurance, the head of the Social Department of Jalal Abad Mayor’s Office, the head of the Health Promotion Unit of Jalal Abad City, the chairman of the Youth Committee, and SPRING’s SBCC specialist spoke on the importance of exercise, dietary diversity, and healthy nutrition.

In July, the annual Water, Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC) conference, “Ensuring Availability and Sustainable Management of Water and Sanitation for All,” was held in Kumasi, Ghana. SPRING/Ghana took advantage of this in country opportunity to host a side table event to present on its nutrition sensitive WASH activities in the Northern and Upper East Regions. SPRING/Ghana WASH Advisor, David Nunoo, and SPRING/DC WASH Technical Advisor Steve Sara presented on the WASH 1,000 approach.

SPRING/Bangladesh observed World Breastfeeding Week from August 1-7, 2016 by organizing over 100 rallies, quiz competitions, discussions, and several dramas and music performances in all 40 upazilas across Khulna and Barisal divisions. More than 100events were organized throughout the week and promoted messages on the importance of breastfeeding in the first 1,000 days. The events were attended by local-level government officials and many members of the community, including graduated members of SPRING’s farmer nutrition schools.
