Essential Nutrition and Hygiene Actions in Mali
As part of our work to improve the nutritional status of women of reproductive age, pregnant and lactating women, and children under two years of age in Mali, SPRING promoted adoption of essential nutrition and essential hygiene actions (ENA/EHA). We adapted the 2008 Government of Mali-approved essential nutrition actions policy to include EHA, building a curriculum for training facility staff and community agents.
SPRING’s Pathways to Better Nutrition Case Study Findings Presented in Kathmandu
SPRING released findings from the multi-sectoral Pathways to Better Nutrition (PBN) Case Study during a national event in Kathmandu, Nepal on April 20th, 2016. The National Planning Commission (NPC) chaired the event. There were over 60 participants representing multiple government ministries, donors, UN groups, civil society, academia, and the private sector.
SPRING’s Community Radio Partners in Senegal
The SPRING/Senegal team visited the project’s community radio partners in the Kaolack, Kaffrine, and Fatick regions. Discussions focused on radio’s role in disseminating SPRING’s nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive messages, as well as devising reliable methods for estimating the geographic coverage and the size of the audience reached with radio broadcasts.
Supporting National Level Nutrition Efforts
SPRING supported the development and finalization of the National Technical Guideline on Anemia Prevention and Treatment and subsequent protocols.
SPRING Conducts Nutrition Assessment in Post-Ebola Guinea
SPRING recently conducted a nutrition assessment in Guinea to contribute to post Ebola virus disease (EVD) response efforts. Before the Ebola outbreak, Guinea faced chronically high levels of undernutrition and food insecurity. About 26 percent of children 0-59 months are chronically malnourished in Guinea, and about one-third of the population is food insecure.
