Community Video (Niger): Aidez vos Femmes pour le Bien de Tous - Help Your Wives for the Benefit of All

The video is shot in the village of Kalgo Tchama, Dogo commune in the Zinder region and features Mr. Damzo's wives. He gives his wife money for food and then goes to fetch firewood. In another family, Moussa is pressuring his wife Sakina to do the housework. Back from the well, a friend of Damzo meets him and makes fun of Damzo for fetching water, which according to him is a woman's job. Then, sensitizer Sakina comes to Rabia. She finds her leaning and discovers that it is because of heavy household tasks she has been doing.

SPRING/Ghana Partners With Cash Transfer Program to Help Break the Cycle of Poverty

Poverty is often a precursor to malnutrition. When families don’t have access to diverse diets and proper sanitation, the youngest members in the critical first 1,000 days, from pregnancy up to the child’s second birthday, suffer lifelong consequences that only further the cycle of poverty. Working with existing poverty alleviation programs is a natural entry point for nutrition programs seeking to reach the most vulnerable households.

Ever since she has been using improved poultry production practices, Ndèye Khady has improved her family’s nutrition and her financial autonomy. She can now help her husband with household expenses. Before becoming a successful poultry raiser, Ndèye Khady participated in workshops on raising improved poultry which focused on how to take care of poultry, keep them healthy and clean, and prepare their food.

Supporting Fathers and Empowering Families in Ghana

In 2017, SPRING/Ghana started piloting Father-to-Father Support Groups in four communities in the Northern and Upper East Regions of Ghana. These groups are comprised of 15-17 men who meet twice per month to discuss family-oriented issues that include infant and young child feeding, household interaction and support, and male involvement in child welfare. These discussions are geared to improve men’s support to women within the household.

Salamata’s neighbor has lost her rooster and is looking for it. She tells Salamata that she is impressed that Salamata's husband supports her in building and managing their chicken coop. Salamata agrees that it is teamwork between the both of them. Her neighbor admits they do not have a chicken coop and that’s the reason her rooster escaped. She tells Salamata and her husband that the neighbor's husband will not help her build a chicken coop.
