On March 19, 2015, the U.S. Agency for International Development officially launched SPRING in the Kyrgyz Republic. The launch was attended by the Ministries of Health, Agriculture, and Education, and national health organizations, members of parliament, oblast and local government representatives, nongovernmental, and international organizations. The event highlighted the high rates of chronic malnutrition and anemia in women and children in the Kyrgyz Republic. Chaired by Paiza Suyumbaeva, Secretary of State from the Ministry of Health, the launch featured keynote speaker USAID Mission Director, Michael Greene.
SPRING will work in 10 districts in Jalal-Abad oblast and in Jumgal rayon of Naryn oblast in coordination with the Ministry of Health, UNICEF, and other development partners to promote evidenced based services and household behaviors to reduce malnutrition. SPRING will promote policy strengthening and multisectoral engagement, build capacity of facilities and service providers, and raise awareness among communities and households about appropriate nutrition for women and children.
