SPRING/Nigeria's Close Out Celebration

In November 2016, representatives from the Government of Nigeria, USAID, international NGOs, and civil society organizations gathered for a final meeting to celebrate the achievements and lessons learned through the SPRING project.

Chinyere Ekwueme, IYCF Desk Officer from the FCT Primary Heatlh Care Development Agency, recognizes SPRING's leadership in the harmonization of IYCF tools and strengthening the data collection process.

Dominic Elue, an Assistant Director from the Federal Ministry of Health, spoke about SPRING’s legacy and contribution evident through scaling up training of the national infant and young child feeding (IYCF) counselling package across 16 states.

SPRING's materials -- including the translated Nigeria Infant and Young Child Feeding Counselling Package, Complementary Feeding and Food Demonstration Training, and the Nutrition and Hygiene for Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Nigeria: A Training for Community Based Organisations -- proudly showcased during the table walk.

Pamela Gado, USAID/Nigeria's Activity Manager for SPRING, speaking about the project's sustainability through capacity building of partners and government.

Mercy Josiah, a community volunteer, spoke about her personal commitment to her IYCF support group. She recently conducted a home visit to ensure a new mother of twins would feel supported to exclusively breastfeed. She was successful, convincing a resistant mother-in-law in the process.
