On March 8 2018, SPRING celebrated International Women’s Day with a presentation at the 1,000 Days Advocacy Working Group in Washington, D.C. Gwyneth Cotes, Global Initiatives Director; Altrena Mukuria Country Initiatives Director; Sarah Titus, Food Security and Nutrition Manager; and Peggy Koniz-Booher, Social and Behavior Change Communication Team Lead spoke about the central role that gender equity plays in improved nutrition outcomes.

Micronutrient powders (MNP) are an efficacious intervention to reduce iron deficiency anemia and to fill nutrient gaps in young children, but there is limited published implementation research, which is needed as countries are increasingly implementing or scaling up programs. In 2015, SPRING held the Micronutrient Powders Consultation, bringing together 49 MNP program implementers and experts to identify and summarize the most recent MNP program experiences and lessons learned for operationalizing MNP for young children.
After 18 months of providing nutrition-focused assistance to communities in three regions of Senegal (Kaolack, Fatick and Kaffrine), the SPRING/Senegal project officially came to a close on September 30, 2017. To formally mark the end of the project and celebrate its success, SPRING organized two close-out ceremonies in Kaolack and in Dakar.
The ceremony in Kaolack took place on October 11, 2017 and honored SPRING staff, partners, and community members and showcased the project’s success in an interactive manner. The ceremony in Dakar took place on October 17th and was attended by USAID Senegal mission director, Lisa Franchett and national coordinator of the Unit for the Fight against Malnutrition, Abdoulaye Ka. Guests at both ceremonies visited different stands to learn about SPRING’s achievements in nutrition-sensitive agriculture, SBCC, gender and WASH.
