SPRING/Bangladesh Celebrates Global Handwashing Day 2016

Celebrated every year on October 15, Global Handwashing Day is dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an easy, effective, and affordable way to improve nutrition, prevent disease, and save lives. SPRING/Bangladesh hosts and participates in Global Handwashing Day every year to rally communities and encourage people to talk about and practice better hand hygiene.

Kyrgyz Media Joins SPRING in an Effort to Reduce Malnutrition in the Kyrgyz Republic

Starting on 15 September 2016, SPRING/Kyrgyz Republic hosted a two-day Media and Messenger Training in Bishkek for 32 members of national media in the Kyrgyz Republic. The event focused on malnutrition, which affects women and children throughout the country, and the media’s potential role in improving nutritional outcomes by focusing on special services and practices during the “1,000 days window of opportunity.”

“Breastfeeding is a Source of Child Health” Campaign in Tash Kumyr

The “Breastfeeding is a Source of Child Health” event took place in Tash Kumyr on Thursday September 22, 2016 with about 110 people in attendance. The function began with remarks from the Health Sector Specialist from the Mayor’s office, the Director of the Family Medicine Center, SPRING’s SBCC & Media Specialist, and a local Family Medicine Center doctor on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months and complementary feeding from six to 24 months. Several performances and competitions took place following the speeches.

Community Nutrition Champion Speaks at a High-Level Roundtable on the Importance of Breastfeeding

On August 18, 2016, SPRING/Bangladesh participated in a roundtable discussion entitled “Protecting and Promoting Breastfeeding: Challenges and Opportunities to Implement the Breast Milk Substitutes (BMS) Act 2013.” The event was organized by three USAID-funded projects—SPRING, MaMoni, and SHIKHA—and was co-hosted by Kaler Kantho newspaper and the Government of Bangladesh.
